Ways to Improve Your Honkai: Star Rail Account
Having trouble in Memory of Chaos? Can’t get the relics you want for your characters? Or maybe you can’t decide who to pull for to make your account better? All of these issues have plagued players at some point in their time playing Honkai: Star Rail. Some mistakes can make those issues more apparent, but thankfully there are ways to make your experience playing go more smoothly. And eventually, you’ll be clearing endgame content easily like this.

Honkai: Star Rail is a more complicated game than it appears on the surface. There’s really only three options in battle: basic attack, skill, and ultimate. And due to the game’s mechanics, there’s not really a dodge or block option. This leads it to seeming pretty simple at first glance, but there’s a lot to unpack once you delve into the game. Due to not having the option to dodge or block attacks, that leads to you having to actually deal with certain mechanics or bosses differently. You can’t just press one button and become invincible for a moment. How you build your characters and teams can make or break your experience and make the game much easier or harder. Of course, choosing who to pull for also can make the experience easier. It’s important to not be too greedy or lazy when it comes maintaining your account.
There’s many factors when it comes to maintaining your account properly to avoid having problems down the line. Many people may think it just comes down to what characters you have, but there’s a lot more to it than that. Characters are a factor, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Relic quality and how you build your teams matter quite a bit, arguably more than the characters you pull. It doesn’t matter if you pull the latest character if the quality of their build is bad. You may be surprised at how you can clear content without the shiny new five star limited character. Here are a few things to consider when maintaining your account:
- How to get good relics and planar ornaments (shown on the dedicated page for optimizing relics)
- Which characters to pull for or skip
- What team compositions should you focus on (shown on the dedicated page for team building)
- How to actually build the characters (also shown on the page for team building)
- And much more!
Which Characters To Pull For or Skip
1. Remember that Stellar Jades are Limited
This may be obvious, but stellar jades are limited. The implications are important though. It means you most likely won’t be able to get whatever character or light cone you want unless you spend money. If you want to avoid spending money or praying to the gacha god of luck, then you need to be smart with your stellar jades. Prioritizing key units for your account will save you a lot of headache in the future. It’s also important to know if you actually NEED the character or not. There are plenty of more accessible characters that can do similar roles to limited five star characters.
Knowing what characters will help you clear content in the most efficient manner will go a long way to reduce frustration. It would suck to invest into a character to later be disappointed, as that would mean you wasted your resources, including your precious stellar jades. That’s why knowing the state of your account in crucial. What team archetypes you can invest into is important factor. Do you own Feixiao? You should definitely get Robin and Aventurine. Do you own Firefly, Boothill, or Rappa? Then you should go for Ruan Mei and Fugue. This can change as more characters get added, but the principal behind the decisions remain the same.
2. Find Out What Playstyles You Like
Different characters have a variety of playstyles. Some may prefer the standard crit-based DPS like Seele. Others may enjoy the follow-up attack style of ganging up on your enemies. It’s important to know which playstyles you like and invest in them. I personally find that vertical investment in Honkai: Star Rail is much better than horizontal. This means is choosing a couple of teams and going all in on them instead of trying to get as many different teams and characters as possible. This will save you resources and make your characters much stronger, especially if you save for their eidolons. If you like the follow-up attack style, then investing in Feixiao, Aventurine, and Robin can go a long way. If you end up liking the break style, then investing in either Firefly, Boothill, or Rappa more will yield great results.
I think a good thing to keep in mind is try to only invest in up to three teams max. Twelve characters can cover pretty much anything the game has to throw at you, and it’ll also have a bit of variety in playstyles. I myself have pretty much only two fully invested teams – Firefly and The Herta. Doing this minimizes the amount of pulls you need to do and makes it so you can save your stellar jades to all in on your favorite playstyles. You’ll be rewarded for being patient!
3. You Do Not NEED Certain Characters
There’s a bad stigma that certain characters are needed to clear certain content. Sure, some characters definitely make the endgame easier, but they’re by no means necessary. Of course, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Jiaoqiu is pretty much a staple with Acheron, for instance. But there aren’t many example likes that at all. Knowing that, you can save a bunch of stellar jades for characters that will actually make a huge difference for your account. A great example is Topaz. Topaz is a good character for Feixiao teams, but you most certainly don’t need her. You can make do with the free maxed out March 7th you get. Anaxa is another character that may work well with The Herta, but you can pass him to utilize Serval and small Herta. Not getting baited by shiny new characters is the key to maintaining your account’s structure.

4. Have Fun and Pull For Who You Want
Now this completely goes against everything I said, but at the end of the day, Honkai: Star Rail is a gacha game. It’s made to be casual and not stressful. All the points I made previously were to help those who want to optimize how to play the game and save resources. But if you simply don’t care about clearing the most difficult content, you’re not really missing out on too many stellar jades. Not clearing Memory of Chaos 12 isn’t that big of a deal. You’re only missing out on 80 stellar jades. The most important thing is to have fun. And if having more characters is more fun, then pull for whoever you want. No one can tell you how you should have fun while playing a game. And playing a game shouldn’t feel like a stressful job.
One major thing to remember is that you should treat gacha games like a marathon, not a race. Don’t stress about the short term. If you’re having a bit of trouble now, it’s fine. Just wait a bit, farm some better relics, work on your characters, and try again later. It’s a gacha game at the end of the day. You’re playing it to have fun and chill. Think about the long term and the bigger picture instead of the potential roadblock that may be hindering you in the present. I hope all the points I’ve made help to make your journey in Honkai: Star Rail more enjoyable and smooth.
Lastly, here is a great video by an established Honkai: Star Rail content creator named Guoba Certified. He makes plenty of videos on the game, including character guides and general advice like how to build teams and whatnot.
